Magic Johnson To Own Part Of Oakland Raiders? #NFL - Video
Magic Johnson is in talks to buy part of the Oakland Raiders. This comes from a source who texted the information this morning. While I have not confirmed this with Johnson or a member of his organization, I have many reasons to believe this is true. Magic Johnson is both a billionaire and real estate developer. My friend Jason Cole of Bleacher Report broke the story that a "billionaire investor and developer" was talking with the Raiders. Magic has long wanted to be a sports owner and while he has The LA Dodgers, his efforts started with the Oakland Athletics in 1997. His representative Lon Rosen contacted me when I was Economic Adviser to Oakland Mayor Elihu Harris and responsible for forming buyer teams for the purchase of the A's. I tried to pair him with Frank Robinson and John Keriotis and did but a deal did not come from that effort. Magic Johnson had worked to establish a relationship with famed Hollywood agent Michael Ovitz. Mr. Ovitz became Magic's mentor. Ovitz was also working to land an NFL team in LA. In 1999, he lost out to Robert McNair for the 32nd NFL Franchise and The Houston Texans were born. Ovitz would have had his LA team in Carson, California. Raiders Need To Alter Treatment Of Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf. The Oakland Raiders treatment of Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf has been just short of sexist and it has to stop. The Raiders do not return Mayor Schaaf's phone calls of late and have told those close to them that Mayor Schaaf should not say via the media that she can lead a horse to water but not make them drink or that she does not want to use public money. The Raiders need to understand that Libby Schaaf is the Mayor of Oakland and she can say what she wants. Sending out words that they can't deal with a powerful woman is a bad sign. The Raiders had Fred Blackwell as the deal person for Jean Quan when she was Oakland's Mayor. But Fred is running the San Francisco Foundation now. Claudia Cappio has replaced him. Regardless, The Raiders need to stop this behavior.
